Need an image under 100KB? This tool compresses any JPG, PNG or WebP to 100 kilobytes or less — guaranteed — entirely in your browser. Drop the image, download the result, upload it where it was rejected. 100KB suits job portals, resume photos, visa documents and fast-loading website images.

Why the 100KB limit exists

100KB is the comfortable middle ground: strict enough for portals and email systems, generous enough that photos keep near-original sharpness on screen. It is also the sweet spot for web images — a 100KB hero image loads fast enough to keep Core Web Vitals happy while looking crisp on most displays. Many visa and immigration document systems also cap uploads at 100KB.

How to compress an image to 100KB

  1. Drop your image above — or click to browse, or paste with Ctrl+V. Multiple files work at once.
  2. The 100 KB target is pre-selected, with JPG output for the most quality per kilobyte.
  3. Download your file. The size badge confirms it is at or under 100KB.

Tips for the best result at 100KB

  • Use JPG for photos — PNG is lossless and struggles to hit small targets without heavy downsizing.
  • Crop away empty background first — quality goes where the pixels are.
  • For websites: pair the 100KB target with WebP output — near-lossless results at a fraction of the weight.
  • Other limits: 10KB · 20KB · 50KB · 100KB · 200KB · custom size.

Frequently asked questions

Will quality survive at 100KB?

Almost always — at 100KB most photos are visually indistinguishable from the original at normal screen sizes.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No — compression runs 100% in your browser. Documents and ID photos stay on your device.

Can I compress several images at once?

Yes. Drop a batch and every file is individually compressed to 100KB, then use Download all.

Is it free?

Completely — no sign-up, no watermark, no limits. See all our free daily tools and the complete compression guide.

100 KB is the web-ready size

This is the target to aim for on images you publish rather than upload to a form. At 100 KB a properly sized photograph looks good, loads fast on mobile data, and does not drag your page speed down.

For context: a page with ten uncompressed phone photos can weigh 30 MB. The same page at 100 KB per image is 1 MB. That difference is the single largest speed factor on most content sites — larger than caching, minification or hosting.

Sizing for where it will be displayed

Match the image to its container, not to your camera. Most blog content areas are 700–900 pixels wide, so a 1200–1600 pixel image covers normal and high-density screens with room to spare. Anything beyond that is data nobody sees.

At 1200 pixels wide, 100 KB is comfortably achievable for most photographs while still looking sharp.

Why this matters for Core Web Vitals

Largest Contentful Paint — how quickly the biggest visible element renders — is usually an image on a content page. A heavy hero image is very often the reason a page fails LCP.

Compressing to 100 KB, sizing correctly, and letting below-the-fold images load lazily addresses most of it. It is more effective than almost any other speed work available to a WordPress site.

WebP will do better than JPG here

At the same visual quality WebP is typically 25–35% smaller, so an image that needs 100 KB as JPG may need only 70 KB as WebP. Every current browser supports it.

If the destination accepts WebP, convert with the image converter and you get the same result for less weight. If it must be JPG — some upload forms and older systems — compress here instead.

Everything runs on your device

No upload, no queue, no file of yours on a server. Need more headroom for a large hero image? 200 KB. Need a strict form limit? 20 KB, or type any size.
